Christening Gifts
Traditionally, money or jewelry was usually given as
christening gifts. Although these gifts are still
given today, most christening gifts encompass gift certificates,
purchases from baby gift registries online and items such as
christening outfits and accessories.
Among other more practical gifts are framed photos of the
christening along with a matching pewter cup; sterling silver
frame, cross, and rosary; personalized birth certificate holders,
crystal angel figurines; personalized photo albums; christening
bibs and blanket sets; and of course, baptism bracelets.
While most christening clothing was crocheted by our
grandmothers such as blankets, sweaters, hats, and booties; today,
high-end priced clothing are among the types of christening gifts
given which include cashmere booties, hat, and sweater as well as
cashmere blankets.
Although christening clothing was geared to the gender of the
baby, today christening gifts are more personalized such as
clothing or blankets with the baby’s name on it.
So too, you can have a star named after the baby through the
International Star Registry and receive a certificate suitable for
framing as well as a teddy bear for the little one.
More importantly, however, online gift registries are not only
utilized, but have become a new medium in christening gifts. It
enables moms and dads to choose gifts they need, without having to
worry about exchanging or returning them. Indeed, for those who
cannot find a proper gift for a christening, online gift registries
are ideal. It allows the giver to choose the amount they wish to
spend, select one or more items listed, and have the gifts
beautifully wrapped to the occasion.
When you ask your mom or dad about your baptism day, it was
pretty much a small celebration at the parent’s home with family
and a few friends. Today, christenings have emerged into an event
not unlike a bridal shower or wedding. Therefore, it allows the
parents to invite everyone in the family including friends to
celebrate a very special occasion. Thus, having a baby registry for
christening gifts is not only practical but ensures whatever gifts
are given are those that have been specifically chosen by the
parents.
Traditional gifts have not entirely been lost in the transition
as many gifts still consist of blessed rosaries, gold crosses on
necklaces, as well as crosses which can be hung above the baby’s
crib. In addition, specific sainted medals are given as christening
gifts as well some of which are pinned to the baby’s christening
blanket and are blessed then placed on a chain and hung on baby’s
crib.
Christening gifts, while they have changed over
the years, are the first gifts parents will receive for their
newborn and will always hold special meaning for all concerned.
